Super Bowl 2021: Beginner’s guide
The most expected sporting event of the year is around the corner, that’s right, I’m talking about the Super Bowl 2021 that will take place this February 7th. This year I will watch the Super Bowl in Los Cabos since I am vacationing in this wonderful and paradisiacal place. Even many of us love this sport, we don’t understand it enough to know what is going on and that is why I have written a Super Bowl 20201: Beginner’s Guide where I explain in 10 points this game so you can enjoy this Super Bowl 2021 like a pro.
Where can I watch the Super Bowl?
Undoubtedly one of the most asked questions by everyone is “Where can I watch the Super Bowl? Well, I recommend a comfortable place to enjoy the game with your friends and family. If you are vacationing in Los Cabos as I am, my recommendation is to visit Abolengo Los Cabos because in this restaurant-bar-cantina you can find the most tasty food and drinks in the world to enjoy the Super Bowl, without a doubt is one of my favorite places plus they have very huge screens and of course they will play the game… So in Abolengo you can put this guide for beginners on a test. At MandalaTickets.com you can make your reservation for Abolengo Los Cabos and other destinations and nightclubs at a great price.
The first thing you must know is the teams that will be competing for the NFL (National Football League) championship, which are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -whom recently acquired Tom Brady-. However, we must not forget that last year the winners of Super Bowl LIV were none other than the Chiefs, so fans of this sport are expecting an epic game.
The game will be hosted at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, United States. The stadium was chosen many years before to avoid any conflict and to be as neutral as possible, but the stadium can’t be just any stadium, it has to comply with certain standards for the game to take place. First and most important is that it has to measure 100 yards, the 50 yard line is marked in the center of the stadium and from there the marking goes down, i.e. 40, 30, 20, 10 to the end zone which also measures 10 yards and obviously the stadium must be in perfect condition to prevent that any player gets hurt.
Duration of the game.
The games have a duration of 60 minutes which are divided into 4 quarters of 15 minutes each. After 2 quarters there is a halftime that also lasts 15 minutes, however the games usually last a little longer since there are time outs (each team has 4 time outs for each quarter), there are incomplete passes and the play has to be started again and they have 40 seconds with the time stopped to be able to make the next move and obviously there are fouls, in this sport they usually check the cameras to determine if it was a foul or not and it usually takes a considerable period of time.
How the game is played.
The game is very simple, it consists of taking the ball from one side of the field to the opposing team’s end zone in order to score a touchdown, running or throwing the ball. Each team has to advance at least 10 yards in 4 opportunities, in order to have another 4 opportunities to advance another 10 yards; if during those 4 opportunities they did not advance the 10 yards in the last opportunity they have to “clear” the ball in order to move the opposing team away and now they will have the same opportunities to reach the end zone.
The team is made up of 53 players divided into three groups: offense, defense and special teams, each with 11 players.
The offense is in charge of making touchdowns and is led by the quarterback, the defense is in charge of making sure that the opposing team can’t score a touchdown and the special teams are in charge of making plays out of the ordinary such as field goals.
Each touchdown is worth 6 points and an extra point can be made when the offense kicks the ball through the “H” at the end zone. You can also get points when in the 4 opportunities they did not make it to the end zone you can try to make a field goal which is like the extra point, that means, they have to kick the ball through the middle of the “H” and this is worth 3 points. Another way is to catch the quarterback in his own end zone, this play is worth 2 points and is called a safety.
In American football there are many rules because as it is a contact sport, the safety and health of the players is always taken care of. Some of these and the most important are: personal foul, which is punished with 15 yards and even a first down for the affected team; false start with 5 yards of penalty, occurs when an offensive player moves before the play begins; holding, is penalized with 10 yards and is when the defense holds an offensive player, you can push, block or obstruct but never hold.
Probably what almost all spectators look forward to during the first two quarters. Halftime has always been characterized as a spectacle that will be remembered throughout the years. Great singers and groups such as Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, U2, Justin Timberlake, Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Prince, The Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Shakira and JLo, just to mention a few, have performed at halftime.
Now, the person in charge of the halftime of the Super Bowl 2021 is nothing more and nothing less than The Weekend, famous for hits such as “Save your tears”, “In your eyes” and “The hills”, great songs that have certainly made us dance and sing like crazy. I am sure it is going to be a great show and he will be able to proudly add himself to the list of artists who have performed in a super bowl.
The trophy was formerly called the World Championship Game Trophy when the Super Bowl was known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game, however it was renamed in 1970 in honor of coach Vincent Lombardi who passed away after losing his battle with cancer. Lombardi was coach of the Green Bay Packers, who led them to win their first 2 super bowls and has some very famous phrases used by athletes such as “Measure yourself against the greats and you will be a great.”
So, prepare your nachos, guacamole and beer, because this is going to be great, and it doesn’t matter if your team didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, the important thing here is to have an incredible day with your friends and family, and now that you know a little more about this sport you can enjoy it even more.
